LEGACY LANDS | PROTOPIAN FUTURE

ACADEMIC PROJECT + PARTNERSHIP WITH URBAN LEGACY LANDS INSTITUTE - 2022

This multidisciplinary design studio asked us to imagine future possibilities for the historic Indiana Avenue neighborhoods in Indianapolis if racial segregation, eminent domain, and slum clearance policies had not disrupted once thriving Black communities. We developed concepts centering Black cultural production, innovation, and entrepreneurship as the influence for the design of the build environment.

My individual final project focused on the power of ‘play’: the possibilities if the historic Black community had been empowered to imagine and design spaces that reflected their identity, freedom, and joy, rather than having these spaces stolen from them.
